Louise Bristow

Louise studied printmaking at Brighton University and has worked in group studios ever since moving here in 1988. She is part of Phoenix Art Space and is a trustee of Fabrica.

In 2021 with Cath Bristow she set up East Side Print, a screenprint studio and community interest company in Kemptown.

Louise is exhibiting woodcuts, screenprints and monoprints in Print House this year.

Eastern Europe holds a particular fascination for Louise and this is reflected in some of the work on show, particularly her monoprints, which are inspired by visits to Berlin. The woodcuts are visual responses to books that she has read and been fascinated by.

The two screenprints titled The Children are Always Ours 1 and 2 are inspired by a quote from James Baldwin emphasising the moral obligation to protect all children regardless of race or nationality.
